Spal Electric Fan Mounting Brackets 30130013

The plastic ones that came with the fan broke after a month or so dropping my fan out as I rolled. These steel bad boys shouldn’t do that. I was however uncomfortable with pushing the little metal retaining plate up against my aluminum radiator. So I used a penny, cut out two pieces of inner tube the same size, silicone them to each side, drilled a hole in the middle, then used that to press against the radiator with the retaining plate pressing on that. Worked great mounting electric fan to radiator. Much higher quality than any of the plastic types I could find. You need 4 of this kit to do one electric fan so I discovered. Very secure and the thinness of the metal rod slides right through the fins on the radiator without messing the up.

Was surprised at actual diameter of the pins, seemed smaller than what they could have pin, one of the clips would not fit tight so had to replace... works but expected better.

I was hoping for more from this kit. This kit is little better than the plastic screws and pushnuts that come with some electric fans. The only advantage I see is that the radiator fins don't have to be mangled when installing these pins. I was hoping the steel pins would be threaded and that some sort of locknut would be supplied. I may be wrong, but it looks like Spal just put together some commercially available parts in a kit- rather than design parts specifically for mounting electric fans through a radiator core. At the least, metal washers should be supplied for use between the head of the pin and the supplied rubber washer, and metal and rubber washers should be supplied for use under the metal pushnut. I would have bought replacement plastic screws and nuts if I could have found them. Note: I have to give these parts good ratings in the categories that Summit lists, but Summit doesn't have a category for "functionality" or "design", in which I'd rate this item poorly. ...read more
